This week’s photo thursday challenge is humorous.
My take on the subject continues the sign-theme theme of the last weeks, a rather unfortunately placed vegetarians allowed-note in front of lingonberry buns.
This was a camera phone image, so what you see is what you get.
Archives are still in a bit of […]

It’s rather hard to explain the attraction of this duo of sites. You’ll either keep browsing image after image from bent objects and really bent, or just give up after a few.
Me, I spent a few gloriously unproductive moments doing just the former.

In 1987 Games Workshop published the first edition of Warhammer 40´000. Subtitled “Rogue Trader”, this seemed like a natural opportunity to field a role-playing game in the imaginatively dark universe.
However, the concept of trading, and basically anything apart from pure war, stayed absent for two decades, with the company firmly concentrating on […]

All the flags of the world have been graded according to their graphic design. Finland scores a B+, with Gambia getting the first prize.

The Chargers ousted the Colts, but the Manning dynasty will be represented on the highest level of football (the helmeted kind) this season nonetheless.
Eli Manning guided the New York Giants to victory on the frigid Lambeau Field in Wisconsin, and thus the team returns to the superbowl after a decade-long absence.
The […]

Empire, the finest movie magazine in the world, has kicked off a third iteration of its famous quotes quiz.
The ninety carefully selected bits of dialogue have been divided into three categories. And while the bits of rhetoric available in the hardest category are well-nigh impossible (I’ve scored a grand total of two out of […]

Foo Fighters have been booked as headliners for next summer’s Provinssirock in Seinäjoki.
I’ve actually never visited the festival, and this might be just the incentive to pay a visit to Etelä-Pohjanmaa just before midsummer. Of course, I said the same thing when Rammstein and Mars Volta dropped by, so the enthusiasm should […]

The 2007 Crunchies are here. And there’s something new to all readers amongst the twenty-odd categories. While lots of the categories were won by established (or at least well-known) players, amongst the nominees there’s new companies and products that’ll either evolve into household names or flame out already this year.

Visited the annual travel fair in the Helsinki Exhibition Center yesterday.
Plus:
Picked up a cheap guidebook on Madeira.
Visited two local quasi-adventure organizers: Aventura and Kon-Tiki.
Was quite impressed by the tactics on how to avoid plumbing renovation: hit the Caribbean.
Minus:
The big one: didn’t buy a cheap vacation for the easter […]

The two first episodes of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen by Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill were nothing short of great. The plotlines, recycling the popular culture of the turn of the 20th century were packed with imaginative second takes of famous stories, and even more importantly, believable new adventures for characters known by the […]

A couple of blogs that have crossed the event horizon lately:
Tiellä Valkoiseen Taloon, a finnish blog on the US election (written by Suomen Kuvalehti).
Aasiakas, documenting encounters with sub-optimal and sub-human customers.
The Daily WTF, documenting encounters with sub-optimal code and writers of such.
Kylttiblogi, misprinted signs (mainly finnish).
Inside Facebook, or actually: outside, looking in.
Two unofficial […]

The blog got today its first spam comment following the engine change.
Activated kismet as a first line of defence, its presence ought to be invisible to users.
If the blog misbehaves, don’t hesitate to contact me by describing what’s wrong.
And if spamming persists, the next step is to bring in […]

The subject is a species of domestic succulent, goldmoss stonecrop. And the image is indeed heavily cropped on account of less than perfect focus.

This week’s photo friday challenge is mountain.
My take on the subject is the image below, a scene from rain-misted Blue Mountains near Sydney. While the region seems to be nothing more than gently billowing rainforest, the looks are deceptive. The lush green covers steep cliffs and mean-looking outcrops.

What was that song on the radio? As long as you know the channel (or can make an educated guess) and the time, soitto.info tells you who it was. (And if the channel is Radio Rock, the smart money is on Christina Scabbia/Megadeth’s A Tout Le Monde).

This week’s photo thursday challenge is source of pain.
My take on the subject is the attached image, which reminds Singapore Aquarium visitors that seemingly innocent turtles can give powerful bites. They were not very menacing that day, being smothered by the equatorial heat like everybody else.
The photograph is available in […]

Black Isle Studios’ Fallout 2 is a classic computer game that I’ve barely played.
When I bought the game, it was defaced by the removal of all the child-age characters in the European version of the game changed the experience somewhat (including missions that were effectively unsolvable). A much worse issue was the […]
