Miselected

Back in the days of Radiomafia, the list of top 500 songs was the source of quite intense discussion. The presence of Den Glider In in the top ten is easily explained by the first and only finnish world championship victory in ice hockey. Wish You Were Here at #7 cannot be rationalized at all, it being the Rednex’ song and not Pink Floyd’s classic.
Now, the newly elected YleX top 200 finnish songs are covered in a blog, with a trio of reviewers rating the individual songs. There’s plenty of misplaced songs in the top tiers, but nothing close to the 1995 fiasco.
Yeah, Winston Churchill wasn’t too far off the mark back in the day:
The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.
As an exception to the rule, the listeners of Radio Rock have voted the top 100 albums, and now the chase is on to select the best song off each. At least the first ten albums covered thus far seem appropriate enough. But knowing the prevalence of Kotiteollisuus on the radio channel, there’s probably quality issues to follow.
