A couple of things of interest:
The header image is now rotated from a collection of ten. Catch them all. Or jump off to the page that shows them all in thumbnailed glory.
Re-engineered the system that generates a page on movie reviews. It’s not perfect, but good enough, and will be […]

Yeah, it would seem that the oddities of the 2007-08 winter never cease.
Easter is white, whereas christmas was mainly green.

Seems that this blog (and the whole site as well) endured a spot of serious bandwidth loss this morning.
Excess traffic is definitely not the cause, and the ISP’s explanation of “miscellaneous firewalling issues” seems to be on the vague side.

… they want their “irrational exuberance” back. Right now.
No other explanation seems to be fitting for the rumored $400 million valuation for RockYou! (yes, the exclamation mark is part of the company name).
After all, providing an facebook-application that allows easy posting of static and live images just is a sure […]

The fourth season of Lost kicked off on finnish television last week.
And continues directly where the third season ended, with a rift-inducing arrival of “rescuers” and flashforwards. The identity of the former is very much under wraps, but seems not to be of good news to all inhabitants. As to the […]

Three kinds of fondue (cheese, meat and chocolate), with enough supplies to dip into the bowls with forks.
Relaxed rules on dropping items (no-one advanced beyond virtual caning).
Copious amounts of wine.
Plenty of good games (Guillotine is actually very playable at 2 am and Munchkin Cthulhu improves with supplements).
Odd […]

Visited the 20 Years of Pixar exhibit in Tennispalatsi on sunday. And heartily recommend the experience for all who have enjoyed the company’s movies.
It’s not a big exhibit - unless you fall into the trap of listening to interviews and watching all the movie samples available. The first floor has a […]

With the death of Arthur C. Clarke today, the trio of Grand Old Men of science fiction is now gone.
ACC was my favorite of the bunch, Asimov’s output was too uneven for my liking, and I never understood why people ranked Heinlein so high.
But then again, to each his own, Clarke […]

And that’s not a jolly reference to the neighbourhood drunkard, but to the unheralded arrival of Lush to Finland.
No company that names its products after fictional bands in Nick Hornby’s books can be disrespected at all.
And having been a user of Sonic Death Monkey for months, I can assure that the […]

It was easy to dismiss the rampant pyramid schemes of the newly democratized Albania as actions of unscrupulous criminals working on a nation that had no idea what capitalism meant.
Recent events in Finland have proven this hypothesis completely wrong.
Thousand of finns have fallen for the hollow promises of wincapita (or winclub […]

The sadly-no-longer-available-in-Finland MIT Technology Review-magazine has put up their annual report on emerging technologies.
Some of the ideas are definitely high-concept, low-probablilty; such as reality mining, whereas some, like offline web applications are sensible off the bat.
The listing of previous years emergent technologies is worth a quick browse as well.

Spent friday evening playing a 16-participant tournament of 2-on-2 table hockey. And enjoyed the four hours spent in Ylähuone a lot.
Managed to improve slightly over the previous tourney. Goals were still tough to come by (especially in the first few games), but all in all victory was not as elusive as […]

Yeah, as the most observant of you have noted, this class of entries actually is about “games of an indeterminate period”.
Anyway, I expect that entries will be added about recently enjoyed games, and created a separate category for them.
Forumwarz remains enjoyable, located an interesting interview with the authors and appended a […]

This week’s macroday challenge is about odd toys.
It took me a good while to get to the grips with the subject - a close-up on the face of a plush Cthulhu seemed to be the best idea until yesterday evening. The irregularly played 2-on-2 table hockey tournament (report pending) provided just the […]

This week’s photo friday challenge is the good life.
My take on the subject is the attached image, of the last moments of a grand dinner in Boston. The scrumptious key lime pie is accompanied with a glass of calvados, and the dinner itself is on top of a full summer day roaming […]

Ilkka Kanerva and Matti Vanhanen have been awarded with spoofed facebook pages. Not in the application itself, even though creating a page for a government official probably bears less severe consequences than pretending to be royalty.
Here’s just a tiny snippet of the secretary of state’s phony page since full takes don’t really […]
