Bronzed

Remember: a bronze medal is won. And both finalists took us to the cleaners in the respective games, hence this is the best result that could realistically be hoped for.

In other words: Teemu Selänne, who was strangely ineffective in the games, has called it quits in the national team. Thus, his ten-second hoarding of the puck at the very end of the game was rather understandable.

The Shedden-experiment is now over, and the coaches that assume the ownership of the team are internationally unproven. Any bets as to the success in 2009 games (hosted by Switzerland) are on shaky ground right now.

Finland has enjoyed a long period in the limelights - nine championships medals in fourteen years. Even though gold has eluded us since the glory days of 1995, that is still a remarkable change from the previous state of no medals whatsoever in forty years.
