American Gangster, 3.5 stars

American Gangster PosterSaw Ridley Scott’s American Gangster weeks ago, making this review long overdue.

Despite a good duo of actors in the starring roles, the plot remained strangely subdued. Like with many other movies, I kept expecting the real story to kick in, but the movie remained in the speed-gathering state for a mighty long time. The Crowe/Washington-pairing is far from the only good show of acting in the movie - picking out a very subdued Cuba Gooding didn’t take very long, but figuring out who Speedman is was embarrassingly hard.

The trailer for Doomsday didn’t look too bad - Rhona Mitra seems comfortable as an action heroine, and it’s always good to see Malcolm McDowell on the big screen. Neil Marshall’s previous films have been convincing - and this mix of Road Warrior and 28 * Later looks like an enjoyable romp through post-apocalyptic Scotland.
