John Stockton, the greatest point guard of all time in NBA, has been inducted into the Hall of Fame.
I saw him play a couple of times during the ’93-’94 season. My Jazz-fu was very weak upon arrival in SLC, so the concepts of “pick and roll” and “Stockton to Malone” were not immediately obvious. But the latter became very familiar already in the first NBA game seen live, when Jazz steamrolled over Pistons. The shortest guy on the field was absolutely lethal in setting up the game, something that was a norm before, and continued for years.
The duo Utah’s finest never won a championship together. Though they came close, very close in the last years of the 20th century, but were foiled by Bulls that were re-united with Michael Jordan. Karl Malone got his as a Laker. And now he has to wait for a year or two before induction on account of staying on the hardwood a little longer.
