This is just downstream of Tammerkoski, the river that bisects Tampere. On account of dam repairs, the river is now temporarily drained.

I have visited Tampere probably every year since 1973, but never seen the drained river. I had always thought it would be much deeper.
Right, first time for me as well, and according to the information sheet on site it’s drained for a week only (and it’s been a century since the previous operation).
The lack of depth was indeed surprising – I also thought there’d be much deeper channel.
