Long Play is the first finnish “slow journalism” site. It was opened last week and the premiere story is on corruption in football (mainly finnish football, but odd characters abound nonetheless).
Their earnings model is per-story, but there’s no proper webstore or reader application yet. Right now Elisa Kirja sounds like the best payment option (fortunately there is a dedicated app in the works).
Amazonas, probably the finest freshwater fishkeeping magazine right now, has quietly gone and forked into an english edition.
I subscribed to the german original, so this is not a major attraction, but it’s nonetheless good to see that quality attracts audience.
An unofficial archive of the LucasArts Adventurer magazine is missing just three issues.
Following the resurrection of Unspeakable Oath, the greatest magazine on modern Call of Cthulhu, the Black Seal, is finally available in PDF format.
Issue #4 has been developed for seven years, so let’s hope this action and extra funds gives it a push forward.

Longreads has evolved from a shared twtter hashtag to a website that features the best in long-form journalism on the web.
Too bad O’Reilly’s Make magazine seems no longer to be easily available in Finland nor in an iPad application.
The newest issue is about DIY space exploration.
Newsweek’s New World Order divides the world into seventeen regions, a couple of standalones and a few city-states (like Paris, Singapore and London).
Finland is slotted in with Germany and the scandinavian countries as the New Hansa. Not a bad place to be, though not as inspiring as “Lucky Countries”.

If the previous entry lamented the downward spiraling quality of journalism, this one celebrates the finest of the profession. Kevin Kelly’s list covers half a century. And based only on the names of the articles, will provide a lot of entertainment in the future.
Sadly, these warning signs have to be self-applied.

Nice, I still keep buying every second issue or so.
Unspeakable Oath, the first Call of Cthulhu zine is being resurrected by the original team.
The original run turned rather delayed and uneven at towards end. But I do have high hopes for the new arrival.
Some of the the long ago sold out first issues of Ankkalinnan Pamaus, the finnish Disney fanzine are now available for download.

Two A+ grade magazines, Death Ray and Filmstar have b een terminated.
The former was the best science fiction magazine around, and the latter the only one worthy of going head to head with Empire.

I’ve been a fan of the laconic and plain Economist for ages, but haven’t a) subscribed to the magazine or b) actively followed their website.
Today they started a ten day-long debate on whether it’s worthwhile to return to the Moon.
Definitely worth reading.
But I’ll stick to purchasing the odd issue here and there as opposed to subscribing – the information overload in the weekly 80+ pages causes cherrypicking.
